At the October 2, 2018 Common Council meeting, Ordinance #844 was approved setting new compensation rates for the Mayor and City Council members. The change represents an increase of $75 per month ($900/year) for the Mayor and each Alderperson. These figures are based on attendance at 12 Common Council meetings which are held on the first Tuesday of the month and 12 Committee of the Whole meetings which are held on the third Wednesday of the month. Individuals currently in these positions will not see an increase in their monthly compensation unless they are re-elected. The Mayor’s compensation will be implemented after the upcoming Mayorial election on November 6, 2018, The new compensation for Council members will take affect following the April 2019 election for the four open seats available, and following the April 2020 election for the four open seats available. Anyone interested in serving as Mayor or as an Alderperson are encouraged to file nomination papers as these seats come up for election. ORDINANCE NO.844
AN ORDINANCE CREATING SECTION 2.06 TO SET THE COMPENSATION FOR MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS.
THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BLACK RIVER FALLS, JACKSON COUNTY, WISCONSIN, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Creation of Section 2.06 of the Code of Ordinances. Section 2.06 of the Ordinances of the City of Black River Falls, Jackson County, Wisconsin, is hereby created to read as follows:
2.06 Salaries of Mayor and City Council.
A. The salary of the mayor shall be seven hundred dollars ($700.00) per month commencing with the mayor whose term begins on or after the November 6, 2018 election, upon his or her taking and filing the oath required by Wis. Stat. 62.09(4).
B. The salaries of the members of the city council shall be as follows:
1. A council member shall be paid one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each common council meeting held each year. A council member will not be so compensated for such meetings that they do not attend in excess of one (1) per calendar year.
2. A council member shall be paid one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each committee of the whole meeting held each year. A council member will not be so compensated for such meetings that they do not attend in excess of one (1) per calendar year.
3. A council member shall be paid one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each special meeting held to which they attend.
The above-referenced salaries for city council members shall commence with those council members whose terms begin on or after the third Tuesday in April, 2019, and with those council members whose terms begin on or after the third Tuesday in April, 2020, upon his or her taking and filing the oath required by Wis. Stat. 62.09(4).
C. Conflicting Ordinances: Ordinances or parts of ordinances in direct conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
D. Effective Date: This ordinance shall take effect and be enforced upon passage and publication as provided by law.
