Water Trails of the Driftless Airs: 05/13/2017 – 05/14/2017
Bust out your paddles and scuba gear: Discover Wisconsin is kayaking, canoeing and “cannonballing” their way through west central Wisconsin. First, they discover the waterways of the La Crosse area by kayak, pontoon and airboat. Heading north to rural Trempealeau County, Mariah takes in a stunning view of the Mississippi River from Perrot State Park. In Buffalo County, she kicks things up a notch by attempting barrel racing but slows things down at Danzinger Winery, Merrick State Park and a farm-to-fork hidden gem along the river. The show comes to a close in Black River Falls, home to Wisconsin’s deepest lake and the endangered Karner blue butterfly. If you’re all about that H2O, this episode is for you.
U.S. Representative Ron Kind will hold a listening session on May 10th from 10:30am until noon at City Hall located at 101 S. Second Street in Black River Falls. this is an excellent opportunity to speak with your representative and express any concerns you may have.
Black River Memorial Hospital has scheduled the Pace and Pedal Duathlon at Wazee Lake Recreation Area. The date for this year’s event is Saturday, May 20, 2017, and the day features three separate events. The chip-timed duathlon begins at 8:00 a.m. and includes a 5.7-mile run and a 10.3-mile bike ride. Participants can enter individually or register as a team. The cost is $20 per person or $30 for a two-person team.
The second event, beginning at 8:30 a.m. is the 5k Wazee Color Fun Run/Walk. There will not be chip timing for this event but there will be a timing unit at the finish line for those who want to know their results. The cost for this event is $12 per person. Families are welcome to bring strollers.
The last event beginning at 10:00 a.m. is the 1-mile Youth Color Race. This event is free for youth 12 and under and registrants will receive a Jackson in Action race headband and a participant medal.
*Shirts are not included in the registration price but available to purchase until May 7, 2017 when registering.
Jackson in Action is a community coalition promoting healthy lifestyles for children, their families and the greater Jackson County area. The Spring Election will be on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, and polls will be open at City Hall from 7:00am – 8:00pm. Local offices on the ballot include: Eric Erickson for Ward 1 Alderperson, Desiree Gearing-Lancaster for Ward 3 Alderperson, and Pete Olson for Ward 4 Alderperson. All three candidates are running unopposed. Current City Alders not seeking re-election include Randy Eddy in Ward 1 and Curtis Redbird in Ward 2. There will be no candidates on the ballot for the Second Ward Alderperson position so all write in votes will be counted. Be sure to come out and vote April 4th !!
