The Black River Falls Parks & Recreation Department announces that the Hoffman Family Aquatic Center will open for the season on Monday June 7.
Due to the nationwide lifeguard shortage, Hoffman Family Aquatic Center will use a slightly modified schedule, and on occasion, may close off certain sections of the pool. These steps are necessary to create the safest possible swimming environment for the community.

Black River Falls Parks and Recreation will continue to recruit and train lifeguards to minimize inconveniences and maximize safety. If there are questions, patrons should contact the Black River Falls Parks and Recreation Department at (715) 284-9246.
Sealed bids for sidewalk repair projects in the City of Black River Falls will be received by the City of Black River Falls Public Works Department, 101 Second Street, Black River Falls, WI 54615 (Telephone: 715-284-2315) until 10:00 am Tuesday June 15, 2021 at which time they will be publicly opened and read aloud.
In accordance with Wis. Stat. 62.15(3) all bids must be accompanied by a certified check or a bid bond equal to 10 percent of the bid payable to the City of Black River Falls (the “City”) as a guaranty that if the bid is accepted the bidder will execute and file the proper contract and bond within the time limited by the City. If the successful bidder so files the contract and bond, upon the execution of the contract by the City the check shall be returned. In case the successful bidder fails to file such contract and bond the amount of the check or bid bond shall be forfeited to the City as liquidated damages.
The City reserves the right to reject any or all bids, to waive irregularities and informalities therein and to award the Contract in the best interests of the City of Black River Falls.
On March 20, 2021, the Hiring Committee for the City of Black River Falls selected Chad Duerkop as the new Parks & Recreation Director for the City of Black River Falls. Duerkop has been employed with Eau Claire Parks, Recreation, & Forestry since 2005 as the Program and Facility Supervisor. He has 22 years of parks & recreation experience previously serving 5 years as Recreation Supervisor for the City of Bloomington, MN and 2 years as Parks & Recreation Director for the City of Waukon, IA. Duerkop earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration – Parks & Recreation Emphasis from Winona State University. The City’s Hiring Committee received 52 applications and interviewed eight (8) candidates for the position. Duerkop is expected to begin his tenure as Parks & Recreation Director for the City of Black River Falls on April 19, 2021 pending standard pre-employment screenings and exams.

Please be advised of the following requirements to appear before the Board of Review:
No person shall be allowed to appear before the Board of Review, to testify to the Board by telephone or to contest the amount of any assessment of real or personal property if the person has refused a reasonable written request by certified mail of the assessor to view such property.
After the first meeting of the Board of Review and before the Board’s final adjournment, no person who is scheduled to appear before the Board of Review may contact, or provide information to, a member of the Board about the person’s objection except at a session of the Board.
No person may appear before the Board of Review, testify to the Board by telephone or contest the amount of any assessment unless, at least 48 hours before the first meeting of the Board or at least 48 hours before the objection is heard if the objection is allowed under sub. (3) (a), that person provides to the clerk of the Board of Review notice as to whether the person will ask for removal under sub. (6m) and if so which member will be removed and the person’s reasonable estimate of the length of time that the hearing will take.
When appearing before the Board, the person shall specify, in writing, the person’s estimate of the value of the land and of the improvements that are subject of the person’s objection and specify the information that the person used to arrive at that estimate.
No person may appear before the Board of Review, testify to the Board by telephone or object to a valuation if that valuation was made by the assessor or the objector using the income method, unless the person supplies to the assessor all of the information about income and expenses, as specified in the Assessor’s manual under s. 73.03 (2a) of Wis. Statutes, that the assessor requests. The City of Black River Falls has an ordinance for the confidentiality of information about income and expenses that is provided to the assessor under this paragraph and shall provide exceptions for persons using the information in the discharge of duties imposed by law or of the duties of their office or by order of a court. The information that is provided under this paragraph, unless a court determines that it is inaccurate, is not subject to the right of inspection and copying under s. 19.35 (1).

Due to COVID-19, OPEN BOOKsessions for informal talks with the City Assessor and to file written objectionswill be conducted by phone. If you would like to set up a phone appointment, please contact Bowmar Appraisal, Inc. at (715) 835-1141 during regular business hours (M-F, 8:30-4:30) no later than 3 days prior to the Board of Review. The 2021 assessment roll, instructional information, and objection forms will be made available. These documents will assist with scheduling a hearing before the Board of Review. Keep in mind that objection forms must be filed with the clerk of the Board of Review at least 48 hours before the Board of Review is conducted unless the Board of Review chooses to waive this requirement.
